The Dover Arts Commission invites local visual artists with experience in graphic design to submit design concepts for a series of icons based on five Dover landmarks. The icons, which were previously selected by the commission, will become the basis for a directory sign and way-finding system in the new Orchard Street Parking Garage. In addition, they will inspire a mosaic tile installation that will be completed later in 2016.
“The garage functions as a cornerstone to downtown Dover’s progress, so we embraced the Art Commission’s idea of adding color and art to make the space more interesting and welcoming,” said Dover’s Parking Manager Bill Simons. “Instead of seeing plain concrete walls, visitors will now be greeted by beautiful pieces of art celebrating Dover’s history.”
“As a busy, public facility, the parking garage is a unique venue to showcase art and engage the community,” said Jane Hamor, co-chair of the Dover Arts Commission. “We are excited about this opportunity to work with local artists to bring more public art to Dover and are especially eager to see their creative designs for this project.”
Artists are encouraged to apply by emailing digital images and other materials to email@example.com by Oct. 21, 2016. There is no entry fee and the winning artist will receive a stipend for his/her designs. Complete application guidelines and reference images can be found below.
