Upcoming Spaulding Turnpike night work to require road closures

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announces upcoming night work on the Spaulding Turnpike (NH 16) in Dover for the placement of concrete girders at the new Exit 6 Bridge, which carries US Route 4 over the Spaulding Turnpike.

This work will take place in two stages. The first stage will be three nights, beginning on the night of Sunday, Dec. 10 and running through the night of Tuesday, Dec. 12. Work on this stage will focus on the erection of concrete girders over the northbound Spaulding Turnpike. Operations will require single-lane closures and short-term roadway closures on the northbound Spaulding Turnpike in the area of the Exit 6 Interchange. Work will begin at approximately 8 p.m., with short-term roadway closures anticipated to begin around 10 p.m. The duration of the required roadway closures is anticipated to be less than 15 minutes.

The second stage will be two nights, beginning on the night of Sunday, Dec. 17 and running through the night of Monday, Dec. 18. Work on this stage will focus on the erection of concrete girders over the southbound Spaulding Turnpike. Operations will require single-lane closures and short-term roadway closures on the southbound Spaulding Turnpike in the area of the Exit 6 Interchange. Work will begin at approximately 7 p.m., with short-term roadway closures anticipated to begin around 9 p.m. The duration of the required roadway closures is anticipated to be less than 15 minutes.

All night work within the roadway is anticipated to be completed by 5 a.m. each night. Adverse weather conditions will push work to the next available night.

The proposed work at the Exit 6 bridge is part of the Newington-Dover Spaulding Turnpike improvement project. Severino Trucking Company, Inc. of Candia, is the prime contractor for the $67 million project, which is scheduled to be completed in October, 2020.
