Join us this summer at the Dover Public Library to see how “Libraries Rock!” Readers of all ages can register for the reading program beginning on Monday, June 25 starting at 9 a.m. The more you read, the more chances you have to win prizes. If you sign-up for the program between June 25 and June 30, your name will be entered in a raffle to win a ukulele donated by Guitar Center of Portsmouth. Stop in the children’s room anytime to sit and read in our rocking chair donated by Ross Furniture.

Monday, June 25 at 3 p.m.: Steve Blunt & Marty Kelley “Let’s Rock & Roll & Read”
We will kick-off a summer of fun with Steve Blunt and Marty Kelley as they present “Let’s Rock & Roll & Read”. Together, this award-winning children’s musician and best-selling author/illustrator keep everyone singing, reading and laughing with plenty of humor and audience participation.

Wednesday, June 27 at 3 p.m.: Flying High Dogs
Don’t miss the Flying High Dogs at Henry Law Park. Mike Piazza and his athletic border collies are guaranteed to thrill people of all ages with their amazing Frisbee tricks. This show will take place at the Henry Law Park. (Sponsored by Kennebunk Bank)

Friday, July 6 from 9 to 11 a.m.: Nature Walk on the Dover Community Trail
Another fun off-site event will be a nature walk on the Dover Community Trail. An educator from Coyote Club Wildlife Education will lead us on an exploration of our community trail. We will meet at the Watson Road entrance of the trail. Please come prepared for an outdoor adventure.

Tuesday, July 10 at 2 p.m.: Rocks and Fossils with the Woodman Museum
Mike Day of the Woodman Museum will be bringing some of their amazing rock and fossil collection to the library. Mr. Day will talk about the examples he brings from their exhibits. Afterwards, kids will have a chance to make their own fossils.

Wednesday, July 11 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.: Mario Kart Tournament
Are you a Mario Kart fan? Come and test your skills against other kids at our Mario Kart Tournament. Prizes for top 3 places. Ages 10 to 18. Sign-up required so visit our website or call 516-6050. Pizza and refreshments will be served!

Wednesday, July 18 from 10am to 7:30 p.m.: Scavenger Hunt
Grab some friends and join us for a Scavenger Hunt through the city of Dover. Teams of 2 or more will be asked to find landmarks, take pictures in certain locations, and be tested on their knowledge of their home town. This is an all-ages event, but we will have prize winners in 3 categories: preschool to 5th grade, 6th grade to 12th grade, and adults. Fastest team in each category wins a $25 Cowlicks Dairy Bar gift card! Your team will register at the library any time after 10am but you must be back at the Library before we close at 8:30pm. I would suggest leaving at least 1 ½ hours to complete the course.

Wednesday, July 18 from 2:15 to 6 p.m.: Dover Farmer’s Market
Once again, we will set up our branch library at the Dover Farmer’s Market. A StoryWalk of the children’s picture book We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen will also be set up at the market. We will offer an activity based on the book at our booth.

Thursday, July 19 at 2 p.m.: Mad Science will present “Sounds Like Science”.
This family show will explore the concepts of pitch, frequency, and vibration in a fun and interactive way. (Sponsored by Dover Rotary Club)

Monday, July 23 at 6 p.m.: Teen Trivia Night
Teen Trivia Night for kids in grades 7 – 12 at the Dover Public Library on July 23 @ 6:30pm! Come as a team or come solo and be added to a team. We will be using the Kahoot! software so you may bring a device of your own or borrow one of our devices. Prize awarded to the winning team! Wednesday, July 25 from 1 to 4 p.m.: Studios2Go Mobile Gaming Unit
Studios2Go is a state of the art mobile video game unit housed in a 30 foot long enclosed trailer. Stadium seating for 20+ players inside and 8 more players outside! Registration is required. Kids in K-5th grade can sign up for either 1pm to 2pm or 2pm to 3pm, and kids in grades 5 to 12 can sign up for the 3pm to 4pm time slot.

Monday, July 30 at 6 p.m.: Book Discussion with author Paul Durham
Local children’s author Paul Durham will lead a book discuss of his novel Luck Uglies. His book will be available to check out from the Children’s Room at the end of June. (Sponsored by Higgins Wood Floors)

Tuesday, July 31 at 6 p.m.: Interactive Harry Potter Movie for all ages
Join us in celebrating Harry Potter's birthday with an interactive movie featuring "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" on Tuesday, July 31st at 6pm. Everyone will receive a gift bag filled with props and a script to help act out the scenes in the movie. Costumes are encouraged!

Wednesday, August 1 from 2 to 4 p.m.: Free Climbing Wall
Vertical Dreams will be setting up their 24 foot rock wall on the front lawn of the McConnell Center. Kids 5 and up are encouraged to come and challenge themselves to reach the top. The wall accommodates 4 kids at once, and kids are encouraged to take as many tries as they can fit in.

Monday, August 6 at 6:30 p.m.: Dover’s Got Talent at the Dover Rotary Arts Pavilion
Our final program will feature you as we present “Dover’s Got Talent”--this is your chance to perform on the big stage at the Dover Rotary Arts Pavilion. Do you sing, play an instrument, juggle, read poetry? Whatever, your talent is, we want you to share it with your friends and neighbors in our end of the summer reading program celebration!
