Portion of Portland Avenue to close Wednesday and Thursday

A portion of Portland Avenue will be closed 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31 and Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019. The closure is necessary as Community Services crews and a contractor, MacKinnon and Sons Excavation, continues to repair a failed underground drainage system in the area of Portland Avenue and Cochecho Street. The scope of work and location of underground utilities has required intermittent lane closures or street closures, but will require a complete closure Wednesday and Thursday.

While the closure is in effect, the following detours will be in place:

• Easterly traffic on Portland Avenue will be detoured via Cochecho Street toward Roger, Atlantic, or Oak streets. All commercial vehicle traffic will be directed toward Oak Street.
• Westerly traffic on Portland Avenue will be detoured via Chapel Street toward Saint John and Broadway.
• Residences and businesses at 44 Portland Ave. will only be accessible from the east (Chapel Street) side.
