The Community Power Coalition of New Hampshire (CPCNH) announced its new Community Power rates effective Aug. 1, 2024 through Jan. 31, 2025. The new base electricity supply rate will be 8.6 cents per kilowatt-hour (¢/kWh), 1.858 cents or 17.8% less than Eversource’s default energy supply rate of 10.458 cents per kilowatt-hour.

The new residential and small business electricity base rate continues to be the state's lowest default rate. Based on the average residential usage of 650 kWh per month, the estimated monthly energy supply cost for Dover Community Power’s base supply rate is $56, an estimated savings of $12 per month compared to Eversource’s default rate.

“CPCNH empowers communities to better control their energy future with enhanced local control, greater customer choice, and low competitive rates,” said Brian Callnan, CEO of CPCNH. “We are excited to continue to deliver on these goals and create significant cost savings for our communities, including for those customers looking for more renewable energy.”

Dover Community Power’s default product for residential and small businesses is Granite Basic, which includes at least 24.3% renewable content, the same as Eversource’s renewable content. Customers may opt for higher renewable content: 33% renewable energy at 9.3 ¢/kWh and 50% renewable energy at 10 ¢/kWh, both below Eversource’s default rate. Customers can also opt for 100% renewable content at 12 ¢/kWh.

Dover Community Power is available for mid-sized commercial customers (Class GV). For more information about these competitive rates, visit https://www.communitypowernh.gov/dover.

Statewide, CPCNH is now providing default energy service to more than 130,000 customers in 43 communities with several dozen additional cities and towns in the process of launching programs soon. Community Power, authorized under NH RSA 53-E, empowers towns, cities, and counties to choose where their electricity comes from and enables municipalities and counties to become the default electricity provider for their communities. Under Community Power, electric distribution utilities continue to own, operate, and maintain the power lines and infrastructure and dictate those related costs, which make up approximately half of the bill.

Dover Community Power launched on Oct. 27, 2023. Most customers on Eversource’s default supply service were automatically enrolled in the Dover Community Power program if they didn’t opt out. The Dover Community Power program is voluntary, and customers eligible can opt in or out. Customers who were not automatically enrolled purchase electricity from third-party suppliers, utilize net metering, or are commercial and industrial customers who use a significant amount of electricity.
