The Portland Avenue retaining wall runs along Portland Avenue from about Cochecho Street to Chapel Street. The existing retaining wall was constructed to support the high traffic volume seen on Portland Avenue but has experienced significant deterioration over the last several years and is need of repair or replacement. The City of Dover seeks to replace the retaining wall and extend the sidewalk on Portland Avenue about 200 feet from Cochecho Street's intersection towards Chapel Street along with other sidewalk improvements.
The City of Dover recently solicited a request for qualifications for consulting design services for the project, available here. Community Services will work with the selected engineering firm to determine the most sound and cost-effective solution. Design is anticipated to begin this summer, with construction beginning in the fall of 2021 or spring of 2022.
