The Downtown Liaison Officer is tasked with implementing community policing initiatives, aggressive preventative patrols, and conduct investigations into incidents that occur in the downtown area. The officer patrols on bicycle, in a cruiser, and on foot. The officer works to develop citizen and merchant support, while creating a collaborative environment to ensure that all of the stakeholders play a role in developing and maintaining a healthy and safe environment and improving the quality of life for residents in the downtown area.
The Downtown Liaison Officer Molly Martuscello is responsible for the following duties:
- Develop business oriented and downtown community crime prevention education, awareness and safety strategies and programs.
- Collect criminal intelligence from residents and others.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to make the residents and merchants aware of the ways in which they can assist the police department to prevent and solve crime in the downtown area.
- Conduct aggressive and preventive patrol, particularly in known problem areas.
- Investigate crimes that occur in the area and conduct follow up investigations of serious crimes when necessary.
- Create and cultivate positive community relations and community involvement. This will include planning and attending events and programs in the downtown area.
- Act as a community resource for identifying and solving problems and addressing quality of life issues within the downtown business community.
