City ordinance requires property owners with an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) to renew their certificate of use annually by Jan. 1. There is no cost to renew.

Renewing the certificate of use is a simple, quick process that may be completed online through the City of Dover's permitting portal. New permit portal users will need to create an account. For questions or for assistance with the process, contact the Planning Department at 603-516-6008.

If the certificate of use is not renewed, city staff will follow up with a notice indicating that the certificate is no longer valid, and the ADU use must cease. If a ADU is no longer in use, please inform the Planning Department to update its records.
