Council workshop to focus on police outreach, emergency planning

The City Council will hold a workshop session on Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers.

The workshop agenda topics include the Dover Police Department's outreach programming, and the review of the city's continuity of operations and local emergency plans.

Dover Police outreach has many facets, including the annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, Aug. 4. It also includes the Teen Center, Dover Youth to Youth, DARE and other prevention programming, the Dover Police Social Work Unit, Dover Police Charites, and the Dover Housing Authority police liaison program. The workshop on Aug. 5 will focus on youth drug and alcohol prevention efforts and the various programs and initiatives offered by the department to address this need.

Continuity of operations planning is ensuring the city government can continue to perform mission essential functions during a wide range of emergencies — natural, human-caused, technological threats, national security emergency — where emergency operations management may need to temporarily relocate its operations to assure continuance of its essential functions.

The local emergency plan outlines outlines the management and coordination of resources and personnel during major emergencies. This comprehensive plan is designed to ensure effective mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery from both natural and human-made hazards.

The workshop will be televised on DoverTV (Xfinity channel 22 and Breezeline channel 9010). It will also broadcast on the city's new streaming platform.
