State DRA sets Dover tax rate

The City of Dover's property tax rate for fiscal year 2021 (tax year 2020) has been calculated by the New Hampshire Department of Revenue Administration (DRA) and certified on Dec. 3, 2020, at $24.85 per $1,000 assessed valuation.

The Finance Department is preparing for tax bills to be mailed out Friday, Dec. 11, with the first half of the tax bill due Monday, Jan. 11, 2021. The second half of the tax bill would be due Tuesday, Jun. 1, 2021.

The tax rate set by the DRA represents a decrease of 34 cents or a 1.3 percent decrease over the prior year. Based on the average residential property assessment of $314,444 for fiscal year 2021 (tax year 2020), the total tax levy would be $7,814, a $247 or 3.3 percent increase over last year. Based on the median residential assessment of $294,650, the total tax levy would be $7,322, a $245 or 3.5 percent increase over last year.

There are four components of the tax rate: the city portion, local education portion, state education, and Strafford County. The tax rate of $24.85 is broken down as follows:
